Dog Dry Skin Home Remedy
Hi and Welcome! Today we’re going to take a closer look at your dog’s dry skin. Many dogs have some form of dry skin and dander just like humans. This is due to lack of omega fatty acids in the dog’s daily diet. Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids are the fats that replenish your dog’s skin and the coat. Without them your dog’s skin will become dry and flaky and their coat brittle and coarse. Here are two ways to help restore moisture and shine to your dog’s skin and coat.
Fix your Dog’s Dry Skin with Diet.
Itch, itch, itch, that dry itchy skin!
There are 3 easy ingredients you can incorporate into your dog’s diet to help relieve dry itchy skin, dander and thinning or balding coat. The first is a high grade Salmon oil. It provides the omega 6 fatty acid. Dinovite’s SuprOmega salmon oil is a great way to add a little flavor and a lot of healthy benefits to your dog’s dry skin. Another great and affordable ingredient to add to your dog’s diet is raw ground beef. It’s essential for getting their immune system back on track! Bathe your dog
You may be under the impression that bathing your dog will dry his skin out. This is not always the case. Too frequent of bathing can make your dog’s skin dry, however it is also what you bathe him with not just how often you bathe him that really takes the toll on your dog’s itchy skin. To help relieve some of you dog’s itching and scratching, I recommend getting rid of anything in your cabinet that contains perfumes, artificial scents and other non-natural chemicals and ingredients. These artificial scents and chemicals can be a problem for not only dogs with sensitive skin, but humans as well. DogOsuds Essential Oil Blend
To start this home remedy for Dry dog skin, I recommend prepping him with a new diet to optimize your results. Along with changing your dog’s diet, recommend bathing your dog with DogOsuds Essential Oil blend Shampoo. This blend contains tea-tree oil which has anti bacterial and anti fungal properties. This will help keep the skin healthy and clean from infections due to scratching and digging his skin. the coconut oil and olive oil help restore and nourish dry itchy skin. When bathing him, suds him up and let the shampoo set for a few minuets before rinsing. (This helps the oils to skin in to his skin.)
After his bath if he has any sores or raw areas do to major scratching, I would recommend purchasing a small bottle of strait tea-tree oil from your local grocery or pharmacy. (Many healthy vitamin shops also carry this essential oil.) To help heal and disinfect your pooches wound dip a cotton ball or pad into a small amount of tea-tree oil. Apply directly to affected area. (if area is within licking distance you may want to cover the area to prevent the oil from being licked off and too much ingested.)

Keri: I would recommend DogOsuds organic, saponified oils based shampoos. They are organic and contain nothing but saponified oils and therapeutic grade essential oils in wonderful scents that are healing and soothing for skin. So you would get the benefits of the additional moisture on your dog’s skin but without the greasy,oily issues. Saponified is simply the method used to turn oils into soaps. So, same benefits, no “oily” worries. My dogs sit on my sofa and that would be really bad for my furniture to have any type of oils on them. I am, however, going to look into this for myself!
I found a great product that I use on my own skin: Kukui Oil. My pup has dry skin and allergies, and after changing her diet and adding omega-3 supplements, I still felt that something topical was needed. After her bath, while she’s still pretty wet, I squirt Kukui Oil onto her skin, and then towel off lightly to get as much as possible off of her coat. No more itchy patches! It’s hypo-allergenic, non-comedogenic, and she can lick it right off and the only thing that would happen is that she’ll get some extra omega-3′s. I love that it’s chemical free, pure, and natural. Great product, and much less expensive than many other products, as you use less. A small bottle lasts almost a year!!
