What is Saponified Coconut Oil

You read the label of most pet shampoos and you wonder if you need a chemical engineering degree to know if you should be washing your pet with it. Do a search on Phenothrin, that will cause you pause.

So why does our DogOsuds line of shampoos start with saponified coconut oil? Simple really, coconut oil is a great natural ingredient, plus it's one of natures best antimicrobials. Coconut oil is a rich source of Lauric Acid, which is found in human breast milk that protects babies from all sorts of disease. If it's a naturally occurring antimicrobial, what impact do you suppose it has on staph or or other topical critters that may be on your pet? Exactly.

What is saponification while you're at it?

The name saponification literally means "soap making". The root word, "sapo", is Latin for soap. The Italian word for soap is sapone. Soap making as an art has its origins in ancient Babylon around 2500 - 2800 BC.

So, quite literally saponified coconut oil is "coconut oil that has been made into soap," or a soap base. Instead of using harsh chemicals that can actually dry out your buddy's skin, we use the most gentle natural ingredients available.
