Zinc
Healthy Skin, Shiny Coat, Healthy Immune System
Zinc, in my opinion, is a mineral that is deficient in most dog’s diets. What does zinc do? Well, it would probably be easier to list what zinc does not play a role in. Zinc is an essential nutrient needed for stabilization of cell membranes, reproduction, insulin storage, immunity and skin health, to mention a few of its functions.
Dogs who are deficient in zinc can display some of the following symptoms: dull coat, dry scaly skin and a compromised immune system.
Recent studies have also linked generalized demodectic mange to a zinc deficiency. In this study, toxicology screens were run on dogs with generalized demodex. All tested positive for a zinc deficiency. Supplemental zinc was given to these dogs, in addition to their therapy, and all recovered.
We use a highly absorbable form of zinc, zinc methionine. I don't want to bore you with technical jargon, but this is cool. Methione is an amino acid and cells love it. A zinc atom is bound to the methionine molecule so when the cell absorbs the methionine, the zinc gets absorbed right along with it, at an absorption rate of near 98%.
Give your dog a beautiful shiny coat, healthy skin, and give his immune system a boost!
